Two-day workplace investigations training workshop

Simply Communicating is hosting a two-day workplace investigations training workshop September 12th and 13th, 2016 – 8:30 – 4:30 for $675 per person + GST (Total of $708.75). Held at the Double-Tree Hilton located at 339 St. Paul Street in Kamloops, BC. Parking is included as are beverages and a light breakfast.
Seating is limited to 12 participants to allow for one on one coaching with skills practice. Workbooks will be provided and along with Kellie Auld will be Kelsey Robertson who is an Associate Lawyer with the Ukrainetz Workplace Law Group, to provide information from a legal perspective. Case studies will be examined to illustrate mistakes that are common amongst workplace investigators and participants will be given their own case to investigate from beginning to end over the two day workshop.
The training will focus on the importance of planning and together we will work through an investigation template that participants can take to use in their respective workplaces.
Interviewing skills will include:
• Preparing for interviews
• Purpose of interviews
• Who to interview (and why)
• Types of interviews & techniques
• Roadblocks – difficult interviews
• Uncovering the facts & assessing credibility
Kelsey will assist participants in understanding the importance of evidence; including an explanation of:
• What is “evidence”
• Whether an investigator should listen to or give weight to hearsay evidence, similar fact evidence and personal history
• What is “best evidence”
Participants will also learn about Report Writing, what happens post Investigation and through the course of the two days, will work through a case study from the beginning to the end.
