Conflict Management

Every one of us has his or her own style when it comes to conflict.  Conflict is inevitable – but what is important to know – is that there is no good or bad conflict style.  While conflict is a fact of life we can manage it if we understand what style may be better than another in a particular situation.

When we understand how to use conflict styles appropriately, we will find that our relationships will improve – not just at the workplace, but also in personal relationships.

There are two underlying dimensions of conflict-handling behaviour (Kilmann Diagnostics) and different modes that exist within those dimensions.

When you understand the different modes of conflict and you can see where one may fit better in one situation than in another; you are better able to have healthy conflict.  Without conflict, new ideas and better ways of doing things would never happen.  We need to learn how to have respectful conflict and be comfortable in accepting that it is a part of life.

Also, learn about the 8 key attributes of a conflict situation so you better understand which conflict mode is likely to be the most effective.

Cultural Assessment Service

Why would a company be interested in assessing its culture?

First of all, if an organization is interested in maximizing its ability to attain its strategic objectives, it must understand if its culture supports and drives the actions necessary to achieve its goals.

An in-depth cultural assessment, based on quantitative data and interviews, can enable a company to determine the difference between its current culture and its desired culture. This information can then be used to design interventions for cultural change.

For example, a company may wish to assess its desired competencies for success and match these against an assessment of its existing culture. Such a gap analysis can enable a company to develop appropriate interventions ranging from leadership development to large scale system changes to enhance its ability to achieve its strategic objectives.

Are you interested in knowing how your employees really feel about working for your organization versus what upper management is told? Are you interested in knowing how you can improve your culture to have employees that care about what they produce?

One good way might be to become an ‘undercover boss’ so you can see first-hand how your employees work and what they really think. A better way is through a cultural assessment that allows employees to provide anonymous feedback.
